The Final Countdown- AGM tonight!!

Just a quick one to remind everyone that the ANUAGS AGM is tonight. I’ve attached the Agenda (which is more fleshed out now), the Exec nomination form and the ANUAGS Constitution.

It will start at ~6pm, in MCCT3 during Friday Screenings. Be there, run for positions, vote. democracy, etc

Also- Good news!! Our membership cards have finally arrived!! We’ll be distributing them at Screenings before the AGM starts.

Finally, our page on the new ANUSA Club and Society OrgSync register has been published. I honestly have no idea if having members on the system (which appears to be like a private ANU facebook) makes a difference but it wouldn’t hurt. So if you are an ANU student (as I said: private ANU facebook) you should register yourself and join ANUAGS.

Oh and one more thing- for those of you who didn’t know already, the Society has recently come into possession of a whole heap of anime posters and we’re selling them off on Friday nights for quite cheap prices. So come and check them out and you could find a bargain.

Definitely my last post before the AGM. I promise.

ANU Anime and Gaming Society Exec nomination form

ANUAGS Constitution

**Update**

A Motion for a Constitutional amendment has just been tabled by Full Member James Reid. The Agenda will be updated accordingly.

Motion- That Section 6E of the Constitution be amended with the words “to the above-listed key positions” replaced with “to a trustee position”

Laser Tag and AGM

Hey everyone,

Just a last minute reminder that tonight there are no screenings as we are going to Laser Tag in Zone 3, Belconnen.

As mentioned in the previous post, our AGM will be next Friday (during the start of Semester 1 Friday Screenings). Here are the promised details:

The AGM will be held in Manning Clark Theatre 3 and start at approximately 6pm. Which means we will play 2 episodes of anime, have the AGM and then play the remaining 4 episodes.

I have attached the Agenda for the AGM and the Executive Nomination Form. The Nomination form also includes a brief overview of the positions on the Executive but please note a few things:

1) The descriptions are only a guide. Things may be added to or removed from positions as required.

2) Entirely new positions may be added and old ones taken away if the Society requires and the changes remain consistent with our Constitution

As per ANUSA rules, we must have greater than 50% of the Executive as ANU Students and at least 2/3 of the Bank Trustees as ANU Students. Consequently:

1) Of the President, Treasurer and Secretary, no more than 1 of these positions can be a non-student.

2) The Executive has total of 7 set positions, at least four of whom have the be ANU students. – ‘Assistant Screenings Co-ordinator’ is a bonus position that can only be filled by a non-student if 5 of the other 7 positions are held by students.

Also “ANU student” can be undergraduate, postgraduate, associate or whatever. Basically anyone who is currently dealing with the ANU Bureaucracy.

If you would like to nominate for a position you can either print out a form and bring it with you or use a copy we have with us on the day. Plus if you have any questions, let me know!

Finally I would like to say thanks to the rest of the 2013 Executive Committee. In my opinion 2013 has been one of the best years for ANUAGS and it couldn’t have happened without your hardwork.

Signing off for the 2013 Exec (except maybe for another reminder next Thursday that will be much shorter than this post),

James

ANU Anime and Gaming Society

Welcome to ANUAGS 2014!

Hello everyone,

Welcome to all the new members of ANUAGS- you’ve joined one of the best Societies at ANU so you’re in for a great year! And welcome back to all the old members- don’t forget that membership fees are due and you’ll need to rejoin for 2014 to participate in our events.

Don’t forget to join our facebook group and follow our twitter @anu_anime. We’re also developing our page on the new ANUSA Club and Society network here so student members should keep an eye out for that.

Our regular events have already started for 2014- with Console gaming every Monday night and Anime screenings every Wednesday and Friday. Plus Boardgaming, Handheld gaming and PC gaming every Wednesday and Friday while the anime screenings are running. Plus we have a Minecraft server- email us to get whitelisted. For all the details check out our website- anime info can be found here and gaming info here.

Please note that while the Monday Gaming and Wednesday Anime start this week (the 17th and 19th of Feb respectively), the Friday Anime doesn’t start until the 28th of Feb. That’s because on the 21st we are going to Laser Tag! It will be at Zone 3 in Belconnen and be $10 for three games. It will start at 6:40pm- if you are late you will miss the safety briefing and will not be able to play. So don’t be late. RSVP to the facebook event which has all the details and prepay at a Screenings event to secure your place.

Just to reiterate- THERE WILL NOT BE ANY ANIME SCREENINGS ON THE 21ST OF FEB and DON’T BE LATE TO LASER TAG.

We will also be holding our AGM on Friday the 28th of February, during the Friday screenings at 6pm (we will pause the Screenings while the AGM is on). It will start at 6pm, there 2013 Executive will report to the Society what has happened and we will elect an Executive Committee for 2014. Our Constitution explains the process for holding AGMs and electing the Executive so give it a read before the AGM. The positions that of the Executive are:

President- responsible for running the Society and overseeing all the activities
Secretary- responsible for maintaining the Society’s records and organizing General Meetings and Executive meetings
Treasurer- responsible for maintaining and organizing the Society’s finances
Screenings Co-ordinator- responsible for organizing and running anime screenings and maintaining the Society’s anime library
Games Master- responsible for coordinating all the Society’s gaming activities
Social Officer- responsible for organizing the Society’s social events such as Karaoke and Laser Tag

Web Officer- responsible for maintaining the Society’s web presence including the website, forums, facebook and twitter.

Finally, for those interested ANUAGS is a founding partner of the GAMMA.CON convention- Canberra’s premiere pop culture convention. You all should check out their websitefacebook and twitter too.

ANUAGS O-week Screenings and Semester 1 Screenings

The time has come for us to announce what we’re going to be screening at O-week this year and what our lineup will be for the 2014 Semester 1 Screenings.

We’re proud to announce an ANUAGS first for 2014: MADMAN sponsored O-week screenings!

On Wednesday (12th February 2014) at 6pm in Manning Clark Theatre 3 we will be playing the classic Ghost in the Shell movie:ghost-in-the-shell

In the year 2029, the barriers of our world have been broken down by the net and by cybernetics, but this brings new vulnerability to humans in the form of brain-hacking. When a highly-wanted hacker known as ‘The Puppetmaster’ begins involving them in politics, Section 9, a group of cybernetically enhanced cops, are called in to investigate and stop the Puppetmaster. The pursuit will call into question what makes a human and what is the Puppetmaster in a world where the distinction between human and machine is increasingly blurry. (Synopsis from myanimelist.net)

This will then be followed on the Friday (14th February 2014) at 5pm in Manning Clarke Lecture Theatre 3 with the more recent hit movie The Girl Who Leapt Through Time:

2999

The power to travel through time… It can be used for the good of humanity, or just selfishly abused. While many may fantasize about obtaining such a power, it has become nothing less than reality for otherwise-normal schoolgirl Konno Makoto. After a fated event, her life takes a turn for the extraordinary. Though she initially uses her power to literally “leap” into the past and change little things in order to make her life easier, she soon has to face the fact that changing the past can have drastic consequences. (Synopsis from myanimelist.net)
